Not so:

Misinformation is false, misleading, or out-of-context content shared without an intent to deceive.

Disinformation is purposefully false or misleading content shared with an intent to deceive and cause harm.

I am aware of the dictionary definition that indicates the two words should have slightly different meanings. It is exactly as you say.

I am also aware that liars, when called out on their lies, will often claim they had no intention to deceive anybody. They downgrade their disinformation to "misinformation" to deflect blame.

Worse yet, liars will claim that anything contradicting their intentional deceptions is "misinformation".

I don't have a good answer for the ongoing corruption of the language. Perhaps I am even contributing to it. When I hear back-and-forth charges of "disinformation" and "misinformation", all I really perceive is "lies". And I often have a hard time assessing who is lying. The deceivers are very skillful.
