In 1995, I attended a NATO conference in Brussels. I walked back to my hotel that night in my Marine uniform and a guy walked towards me on the sidewalk and when he came up to me, swing his fist at my face. My instincts kicked in and I easily blocked his punch - but I was too surprised to hit him back before he ran off.

That guy was an Arab of some sort and this was before I had ever heard of 1. Arab immigrants in Belgium or 2. Potential acts of violence by Arabs against American officers in Brussels.

Damn shame - because Belgians were some of the nicest people I had ever encountered.
