Wasn’t a submariner sentenced to prison for taking a snap shot inside his vessel? She compromise her ship to all sorts of detection and only gets demoted.

The Navy is installing its own Starlink dishes because it’s a phased array that points a pencil beam nearly straight up or at angles 45 degrees or higher. The low probably of detection let alone being able to stay in that pencil beam as it sweeps across the sky at faster than supersonic speeds. This is why the Navy wants to use it’s. No other system has these capabilities. SpaceX is launching a dedicated military Starlink which will likely use the same phased array antennas at a different frequency band close by. The risk was not detecting the beam in the sky it was having a unsecured network which data could be sent off ship without going through the military firewalls or security sniffers. China is also launching a Starlink clone for these exact same reasons. LEO birds are hard to get in the beam and stay in it. Musk changing the world yet again.
