In my area (Seattle suburbs) most of the buyers of the nice homes are Chinese. They pay cash. Elderly couples buying a brand new 5,000 sf house. It has been that way for awhile. It wouldn’t surprise me if the CCP has some sort of plan to somehow have it wreck our economy.
I guess if the American Dream includes a young working-class couple being able to buy a home, the plan is working. (It is now the Chinese and Dot-Indian dream - along with really fancy cars).
It’s changed a lot over the last three decades with the Chinese communists coming in and usurping communities created by Taiwanese and Hong Kong immigrants.
All of them buy homes overseas to keep mistresses and to have somewhere to escape when Ceausescu time comes.

I wouldn’t say wreck, then no one could buy their shoddy, toxic junk. Maybe control our economy for their ends would be more likely.
