“ We had to wear our Scottish uniforms with the plaid pleated skirts and the little short jackets and white gloves. ”
LOL…that is the Prince of Wales hotel in Waterton today. All the male bellhops wear kilts. The hotel opened in 1927 and they adopted the kilts in the mid 50s and still wear them today. They hire lots of young people from Scotland, England and Ireland, too. All very polite and helpful, but you have to listen very closely.
Ha! Very cool. I’ll look that up. When it was time for the “changing of the guard”, that is, the new shift of elevator operators (all girls) and bellhops (all boys) to replace those coming off of their shift, we had to line up in a little room and then march out into the lobby and officially take our elevator and then the ones leaving had to officially march away lol.
I can’t imagine trying to get anyone today to do that! Plus I don’t know how all the tatoos, blue hair, piercings, and various nuts and bolts protruding from their faces would look with the uniforms lol.
Just looked it up....another hotel built by the railway. They all have the same look/feel. Very nice.
