Elon Musk urges millions to switch-off controversial Windows 11 feature that takes screenshots on your PC

Tesla CEO compared incoming Recall feature to an episode of Black Mirror

  • New Recall feature will be coming to Copilot+ PCs from June
  • It takes screenshots of everything you do on-screen
  • Snapshots are analysed by AI on-device so they can be searched
  • Elon Musk has announced plans to disable the feature on his PC
  • Privacy campaigners have also flagged concerns
  • UK privacy watchdog has launched an investigation into Recall

Elon Musk has criticised a controversial new AI feature coming to Windows 11 devices this summer. Known as Recall, it takes screenshots of everything on-screen so you can scroll back in time and resume work on anything from within the last month. The functionality will be exclusive to a range of new Copilot+ PCs.

Artificial Intelligence, powered by Microsoft's $10 billion partnership with OpenAI to licence its latest 'flirty' ChatGPT model, will analyse text and pictures in the screenshots — so you can search for phrases, people, animals, and landmarks to find what you're looking for, without knowing the name of a document or webpage.

And even if it could be turned off, every Windows Update or other Windows ping would turn that feature 'on' to 'help you.'

That's why I'm hanging on to Win7 with a death grip. I turned off automatic updates the first time I turned this computer on when I bought it in 2010. Still runs smooth as silk. No updates, ever, to screw it up.

“But I suspect older versions of that technology have been in play for years, with engineers looking at automated feedback and training their AI with live user data, until their technology was sufficiently developed to be ‘worth’ the bigger/better chip technology.”

ABSOLUTELY! This is not Beta, this is the production version. The Beta version has now been proven. Why anyone would be gullible enough to believe one word they say is beyond me. This is NOT A GAME. This is for REAL. and if folks do not make a major effort now Conservatives and Christians will not even be able to use the the net at all without incriminating themselves. We are ALREADY considered CRIMINALS and they are right now gathering evidence to use against us IN A COURT OF LAW.

The time has come. Ditch Microsoft or GET OFF THE NET.

Honestly I do not know. I can’t tell you because I added a windows service pack almost ten years ago that cured the MS problem for good...

“I do expect that there are people languishing in the DC gulag since J6, almost four years ago, who are rethinking your position.

These things are a shiny chain of bondage that most people can’t resist.

When this ancient forum no longer works, it’s “Adios!”

Far too many are not understanding how serious this REALLY IS! What is not illegal today will be tomorrow. And any evidence gathered now WILL be used against you in the future.

I know that I (now retired) cannot keep up with the technology.

I think that government, particularly, wants petabytes of storage that it can access instantaneously. The Internet forgets nothing. Encrypted data can eventually be cracked, or when it appears you are of interest, your passwords can be compelled.

Find other interests. Leave the shiny chains. Learn how to drive with a map, while there are still road signs. Read the Bible. Life is way more than ordering Alexa around.

Spoken with the wisdom of a Sage.

“or when it appears you are of interest, your passwords can be compelled.”

It is past that point. Just go watch a video and they are grabbing your login credentials to everything else you are logged/logging into. But can we live without YouTube?

Blasphemous crazy talk there.

We should all reset our lifestyles, quit the “convenient” tech that has tempted us to forfeit our privacy, and switch to ham radio and letter writing.
I got fed up when I sought to purchase a new printer and found that all the supposedly superior models were with ink supplied by subscription, and wireless. I’m told they won’t even work if not connected to the internet. WTH.
And only a few years ago you got software with a cd, or at least a digital download that didn’t require an internet connection to “validate.” Now, all the apps worth having are requiring you to be online or they won’t work.
It wouldn’t be as much fun, but I can live without an internet connection.
:(

In the beginning the last person I would’ve expected to fight for freedom would’ve been Elon Musk. But I have to admit I did shed tears when he bought Twitter because I thought finally we have a fighting chance. And in these terrible times of censorship he seems to be the last bacon on a hill fighting for Freedom of speech all across the whole. God bless him and keep him safe and his family.

Here is a thought. Pressure those who post videos over there to also cross post them to Rumble too or we are gone. It would be a win win. They would be profiting from two platforms and we could ditch Youtube for their arrogant practices and use Rumble instead. Rumble is great, it just needs more content and this would fill it up fast.

When YouTube sees the traffic go over to Rumble they will change their tune.

Good on you for having that strength. But we don’t have to do without the internet. There is actually a way out if folks will commit themselves to it. There is a way to build a whole separate internet that is safe. And it is open source for everyone so they can’t lock up the CEO or stop it. The only way to stop it would be to shut down your local internet access portal and they are NOT going to do that.

And we could still have our favorite sites like the FR if they join in too. It is time to dump the controlled Top Level Domain...

And thank you for the opportunity to make sure everyone understands how it works. :)

This is bad, real bad...
