[T]he sailboat – a 47-foot French-flagged vessel named Albroc – and a mayday call was received from a 47-year-old woman aboard the boat who stated that she, her 7-year-old daughter and their pets needed to be rescued.
She also reported there was a deceased man onboard...
“With seas greater than 25 feet forecast within 12 hours of their position and the damaged condition of the [sailboat], the William P. Lawrence had a six-hour window to safely conduct small boat recovery operations,” USCG said.
Eventually – and in spite of 10-foot seas and 15 mile per hour winds – a small boat crew was able to launch and rescue the woman, her daughter, a tortoise and a cat. Due to the adverse conditions, the crew could not safely recover the deceased man, officials confirmed.

... a millionaire and his wife!
A deceased male whose body could not be recovered. Has Lovey has been bad?
I would suspect foul play.
A three hour tour.
FREE SAILBOAT!
Never trust a tortoise when they partner with a cat.
A three-hour tour....A three-hour tour...
Woman, child, tortoise, cat.
That sounds like four words you have to remember when taking a memory cognitive test.
I took one online a couple of months ago. I can still remember the four words on the test: Velvet, Face, Red, church.
We live on a 36 ft sailboat that was made to sail across oceans.
With the current weather around Hawaii, we would NOT have been out there.
The weather started getting rough...
Yes, a smart mariner is always aware of oncoming weather conditions. Some folks just have no sense of when to say “no go”.
This weather was widely broadcast, days ago.
Perhaps the tortoise was sick of the old man?
Let me guess...
They brought the tortoise because he knew the waters.
And the cat because whatever happened, they’d always land on their feet.
a cat-tastrophe!
Don’t wait to retire to travel in a yacht. Do it when you’re young.
a 47-foot French-flagged vessel named Albroc ...
Did they sail this boat, themselves, from France? If not, who did? The dead guy?
No, I did NOT read the article.
That's an easy one. The church uses red velvet ropes to block off pews so the preacher can see the face of the worshiper. Just don't start thinking about the movie Blue Velvet. That would mess you up.
Al Broc is better than Al Gore, I suppose. And at least the woman and cat ended up better off than the folk a few yards from shore in Italy (or the codefendant who got run down by a car a few days earlier.)
What’s the punchline?
