SW Wisconsin (and a lot of Wisconsin!) got some much needed rain overnight. I just checked the gauge and it was a full INCH, so that’s more than enough to do some good and settle the (*Cough, Hack, Wheeze*) dust and pollen!
Today I am baking an Apple Pie (with my own apples!) for tomorrow and also roasting what’s left of the Sabre tomatoes with onions, garlic and herbs for pasta sauce/lasagna filling to freeze.
Also, cleaning/straightening up ‘This Old Dump’ for guests tomorrow. Mom and her BFFs are coming for one final Tomato Raid on the garden. We usually hit the local apple orchard/pumpkin patch this time of year, but I think that’s waiting for another day...and some Fall-like weather. Still high 80’s for a few days and then a cool down starting on this Sunday. Yay! :)
Mom: I am saving the Sabre tomato seeds! I already have about 100, but if you and I are the only ones re-populating the Sabre World, we’ll need more! :)
Right.
Actually, I think the idea wit the Triple Super Phosphate is to apply less, but it’s more convenient.
Which in any event means I probably should pass on this:

;-)
Maybe I should have been a plumber or electrician? I’m good at it, not big (can work in tight spots), and I would have made a lot more money!
Then again, certain jobs (like crawling around in a floor truss in an old building getting upgrades in Mt. Carmel, IL, for 2 days in the summer, to run cables for a big audio system) nearly did me in then, and I was only in my mid-30’s! One of the dude’s who’d been in ‘Nam said I’d have made a good tunnel sapper — no thank you, SIR!!
The problem for me in these jobs when it’s “once every blue moon” is that it’s typically rather inefficient, the PVC glue has dried up, etc... But at least I wasn’t cooking in a floor truss.
“with”
Spell (or typo) check fails again!
Congrats to you!

OK that sounds seriously yummy. We only have 5 left in the garden on two still healthy plants. I will try that next year. Used a couple chopped ones on a homemade pizza, very yummy.
My plants got kind of ‘crispy’ but we had such a WET start to the season, some later blight was to be expected. The vines themselves are still ripening some nice Sabers for me!
So glad you turned me on to this tomato. :)
Hubby is saying next year all he wants for tomatoes are sabres and maybe a cherry tomato. I want to have something else for early picking. I am going to order those sabelka seeds for next year, just waiting to make sure I get 2024 seeds. My sabres are so many generations in now, maybe 8 or 9. I did see more juice and seeds than in the earlier years.
Super Phosphate DUST might be more of a jolt (still goes on the ground or mix in) than the granules?

I’ve also tried dissolving the granules in warm water but they do not dissolve very well.
Oh, BTW, “Triple” is usually “45” or “46”. So, not quite 3x an “18”, but getting there.
We got 2” this past week .... grass is happy & still growing. I will have to mow when I get back early next week. Will likely have to mow Oakwind on Sunday.
I’ll try the Sebelka, too. Remind me in February when we’re both snowed in and bored, LOL!
Yes, the Sabres I grew from your seed seemed more wet and ‘seedy’ than I was expecting. But they were still a great paste tomato, hands down.
I only planted two of the Sabre, but next year I’ll do all Sabre and forget the others. This paste tomato blew away every other variety I was growing.
I’ve grown ‘Federle’ in the past (Seed Savers) and was always happy with that one, too. (SS page for this tomato is down for some reason...) so we have this one for ‘backup.’ ;)

I’m done mowing for the season. I usually mow up until October 1st, but with it being so dry, there are really only TWO shady spots that kind of need it, but I just may close my eyes when I walk past those parts of the house yard until we get a hard freeze. ;)
Oh, the BEAUTY of having no neighbors in sight and no Homeowner’s Association to answer to! :)
I’ve got pictures of some of my early year sabres, nearly all 6 seeds or less, many just 4, and almost no fluid.

I am keeping our new place mowed & trimmed so people think someone is living there 100% of the time. When my cousin’s widow visits, the first thing she says as she gets out of the car ....”looks like someone lives here!” ... music to my ears.
The grass has definitely slowed down - I last mowed 3 weeks ago. The old homestead is still needing it at least every 2 weeks.
Since your mom is visiting, read this (tissue alert!):

Awww! *HEART*
I believe ya! But whatever ‘hybrid’ we have now is still an awesome tomato! :)
Just another reason I want to try the sabelka.
