***Does anyone know why the smoke was red?

IIRC the second (larger) explosion at the Port of Beirut in 2020 had a similar reddish cloud when detonated. That cloud color was caused by nitrogen dioxide, a byproduct of the ammonium nitrate explosion.

The Israelis aren't using ANFO-type explosives. AFAIK, RDX, HMX, and the like all leave a black or darkish cloud. The red smoke may be a byproduct of the home-made rockets stored there or the solid-fuel of the rockets burning.

I was recalling the port explosion as well - and that was attributed to the munitions stored there ... I guess this means Hezbollah had a missile store alongside the HQ (that would make sense)

Still trying to figger out all the red color myself. Never seen that much and brightness before. Your thot that it might be building materials is worth a look. It wouldn’t be ANFO unless it had something weird added to it. I use ANFO and , by itself, it will just blow white or light gray.

I usually can guess what blew in an explosion from either the charge or the secondary but this one is weird. Stored rocket motor fuel, maybe with some iron content, might be involved. No telling what kind of brew the muzzards are mixing up/

An early thot was maybe it was muzzie blood but even Noseroller’s nose couldn’t bleed that much? Did they ever rebuild that Beirut granary?
