I was in England, traveling up to Edinburgh, Scotland that Sunday. Had no idea that Diana had been injured or died until passing Edinburgh Castle, with the flag flying at half-staff. Thinking it was possibly the Queen Mother, I asked the cab driver who died. I asked him to repeat himself because it almost sounded like he said Princess Diana had died.

The royal family gathered that day at Balmoral Castle. My time in Great Britain during the next week was rather somber and unforgettable. Visited York Minster, where massive bouquets of flowers were left by mourning Brits. Diana was absolutely the People's Princess.

Oh my goodness, what sad timing to be right there. It had to seem almost like being intrusive, but not..

I was at Publix and someone came to the customer service desk and said Princess Diana is dead. No one really believed her, but she’d heard it on the radio (how quaint, news from the radio). The manager had a little TV and he and several customers went to listen- and of course it was true. An older fellow said “she’s too beautiful to die”.

Wow... very interesting experience! I just saw everything on TV. Would have been fascinating to see all of that in person like you did.
