“Regardless of what Harris is, she is unfit to be President, whether she has a personality disorder or not.”
Personality disorders are formal classifications that are set apart from disorders involving psychosis, i.e. schizophrenia. IOW, people with personality disorders, no matter how severe, are not psychotic. Ok, Schizotypal Personality Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder can resemble a mini schizophrenia in some ways but still not considered psychosis.
“If she has a true medical issue she wouldn’t be able to control it, and she is.”
It could have been curtailed with medication; but no, I don’t think that’s really what happened.
“If she has a true medical issue she wouldn’t be able to control it, and she is.”
If it is a behavior issue, the question becomes is it biochemical or psychologically caused? My guess is that this is psychologically caused as it blocked an aspect of her psychological development in her teenage years.
Behavior modification techniques can repress certain attributes. I mentioned previously that it appears she has been coached with behavior modification techniques as the silliness was her coping mechanism to deal with fear. It was apparent that the fear surfaced again in the most recent interview.
Many psychological medical issues can be altered. Hypnosis is often used to do this. Psychotherapy is a better tool.
I’ve been working with schizophrenics for many years. It is one of the most complex psychological illnesses I have encountered. It primarily has to do with patterns of consciousness development.
I agree with you. However, medication could have been used as it can cause the flat affect that she exhibited.(In comparison to her previous emotional roller coaster)
“people with personality disorders, no matter how severe, are not psychotic.”
Distinguishing between a personality disorder and mental illness is not always straightforward. Both can involve overlapping symptoms like disordered thinking, impaired functioning and problems with emotional regulation.
Some key challenges in distinguishing between the two include:
Overlapping symptoms: Many symptoms, such as mood swings, anxiety, and irritability, can occur in both personality disorders and mental illnesses.
Co-occurring conditions: It’s not uncommon for individuals to have both a personality disorder and a mental illness, such as depression or anxiety. This complicates diagnosis and treatment.
Lack of self-awareness: People with personality disorders often lack insight into their condition, making it difficult for them to recognize the need for treatment.
Stigma: The stigma surrounding both personality disorders and mental illnesses can make individuals reluctant to seek help, leading to delayed diagnosis and treatment.
She has zactly too
Trump needs to bring a Breathalyzer to the debate
So do you for marring her
That is not a good training film. It’s old and not representative of the variations within the disorder.
The way the DSM-V works is that it lists a variety of possible symptoms and then states the number of attributes necessary for a diagnosis. It is not rigid in that symptoms exhibited may vary considerably.
I have quite a bit of training in psychiatry.(I do have a degree in psychology but chose neuroscience for research purposes.) My specialty is neuroscience, but I attend the psychiatry Grand Rounds at the hospital and several psychiatry conferences every year including the APA conference.
I have an insatiable desire to learn medicine from all aspects. Just returned from a Radiology Conference in Florida. Being retired, and in a medical school environment, I have an unlimited opportunity to learn. It’s very humbling as there is so much to learn and more difficult as I get older.
Look up pseudo Bulbar Affect. That and the suspicion that she probably pops Xanax and drinks like a fish.
Yes, of course, differential diagnoses can be challenging. But I am talking about the classifications, not the patients (the classifications are fairly straightforward but the patients aren’t, in most cases!).
She is the most intelligent human being I have ever met. Went right from high school to Northwestern for med school. Six years out of high school, she was an MD, from there to Yale to intern in cancer research and then residency in psychiatry at Duke.
The positives are way greater than the negatives, and she puts up with me!
I’m familiar with PBA. I mentioned it above.
I think you posted to me earlier in the month.
I had proposed bipolar affective disorder (old term manic depression).
The easily triggered enthusiastic laughter and the sparkling eyes (unless by contacts) are symptoms.
Catherine Zeta Jones, Patty Duke, Ernest Hemingway, Ted Turner, Brian Wilson, Frank Sinatra, Mike Tyson, Kurt Cobain, Kanye West, Ray Davies (of the Kinks) and allegedly Jimi Hendrix who wrote Manic Depression after being told by associates he seemed to have it.
To comply with longstanding rule on FR:
Catherine Zeta Jones

No. She’s an alcoholic.
Many times we tell a person that they have a “Personality Disorder” without telling them what it is specifically. This is necessary in order to facilitate treatment. It is especially true in narcissistic disorders. Never tell a narcissist that they are a narcissist!
A person can have multiple disorders, and usually does.
Her inability to work with her employees is another important symptom.
Biden was an empty suit. Harris is an empty PANTsuit.
Bipolar disorder also imitates the symptoms a person goes through during the cleansing process in a spiritual awakening.
I do not see her having a spiritual awakening... but Hemmingway and many famous authors went through this. Hemmingway also was an alcoholic. I spent a day at his house in Key West and learned about his life. Very interesting character.
I have no doubt Harris has some kind of personality disorder. Sorry your wife is a Harris supporter, but there is hope; for about the first 5 or 6 years of our marriage, my husband and I never discussed politics, as he was a lifelong democrat, and breaching the subject would result in an argument. His eyes were opened when he was offended by something he was listening to on his favorite NPR station, and, addicted to talk radio, he began to listen to his only alternative at the time, conservative radio. He was shocked that he actually agreed with the views he was hearing. He’s been a conservative ever since.
