A Revere High School administrator was injured after a “massive brawl” broke out just days into the new school year, according to the Revere Teachers Association.
In a news release Friday, the educators union alleged that a high school administrator was hit in the face as they attempted to break up a fight on the third day of school. While the RTA alleged that the staff member was knocked out in the fight and had to be taken to a hospital by ambulance, Revere Public Schools disputed both claims.
The district confirmed there was a physical altercation involving several students during the transition into lunch period Thursday. In a statement, Revere Public Schools said one staff member was struck during the fight and was taken to the hospital “out of an abundance of caution,” though they are home now and reportedly feeling fine.
But for the Revere Teachers Association, Thursday’s incident is another rallying point in an ongoing battle over school safety.
“Revere educators saw this coming as we have consistently raised these concerns, and now our schools are being impacted by this avoidable incident,” RTA co-presidents Michelle Ervin and Jane Chapin said in a statement. “Revere educators know that our working conditions are our students’ learning conditions, and we are deeply frustrated as we have provided solutions to address this health and safety crisis. It has fallen on deaf ears.”
The union further alleged that many students were also involved in an after-school altercation this week on Beach Street near Revere High School. According to the Revere Teachers Association, a clip of the incident made the rounds on social media and showed what appeared to be a firearm.

> Chances are the new principal is scared or just mailin’ it in. <
There is a third possibility. When I first started teaching many decades ago, most principals were tough old guys. Some were army veterans. But the new breed are careerists. They make decisions solely on how it will affect their numbers.
Low suspension numbers = chaos in the school, but bonuses and an eventual promotion.
High suspension numbers = an orderly school, but no bonus and no promotion.
I’m sure you can guess which option the new breed picks.
> Vouchers/school choice 100%. <
Yes. At some point you’ve got to quit bailing, and abandon ship. It’s a tragedy, because public schools were meant to be a melting pot. That’s indeed a noble goal. But the administrators in today’s city schools are all woke, careerist trash (and by all, I mean all).
Abandon ship. Save whomever you can.
There’s a lot of concern among homeschoolers that getting a break like that can allow a foot in the door for the government to regulate the homeschooling and curriculum choices.
Even if it’s a break, some leftists like to say that’s the same as receiving government subsidies and should be eligible for government oversight.
Backwards thinking for sure, but that is one major reason homeschoolers have never pushed for that kind of break or school choice option.
Matter of fact, in Maine, some districts don’t have a high school, so the parents are given a stipend to send their kids wherever they want and this exact issue has come up, lots of pushback for it being used for Christian, Catholic, or homeschooling.
Only public indoctrination institutions allowed.
We need to make sure we’re sending every illegal we can to MA, CT, DE, and all those northeastern states.
The pious people up there find it hard to comprehend how the races don’t get along better in the south. Could it be that they don’t have enough minorities? We need to send them every illegal that enters the USA to help them better understand. Destroy their delusional world and see how many are still blue states.
“You gotta keep ‘em separated!”
I was told to NEVER break up school fights - the last one I broke up, the principal screamed in my ear for 15 minutes - she said to let ‘em kill each other, she couldn’t spare me getting hurt.
She reminded me, in California, a teacher’s legal duty, when it comes to fights, is to tell the fighters to stop and then get help, to never, ever get physically involved.
I’ve seen some vicious, vicious fights - weaves and nails pulled out, scratching like wild animals, chairs tossed across the room...
Husband had it worse as a school dean and counselor, he broke up plenty of fights (and yes, girls are the worst b/c they won’t back down) - but then he was also the wrestling coach, taught self-defense and had a black belt. Never got hurt once.

Hola Yogui! ¿son ellos?
Most likely it WAS a massive brawl and the school is downplaying it - my colleague transferred into an urban school that had these kinds of fights all the time - city police in riot gear and even helicopters were involved.
Local news wouldn’t report these fights and the administration called them “minor infractions.”
He said, “stupidly.”
“They” is plural.
The GOP should push for school choice. No one in their right mind wants Government Schools to be their only option.
I would agree but...
School choice as people see it, unfortunately usually involves government approval as the money is in the hands of government. There can be no involvement of any form of Government as that will result ultimately in exactly the government mess we have on our hands now.
I’d like my tax money which is intended for children’s education to be made available to me for children’s education. But that’s not the current situation.
...and government is not going to go quietly into the night and give up its position over the indoctrination of children at taxpayer expense with the sudden desire of a few awakened individuals.
It will take an army of like minded with the will to crush the long standing “system” to get “education” back to the one room school house days that in my opinion was responsible for winning WWII.
The present system is a billion dollar industry in the hands of government from beginning to end and we the people have made it all possible.
Vouchers/school choice 100%.
If the vouchers involve government in any way shape or form, the effort is doomed from the get go.
Amen!!!!!
Not sure why that makes me a philistine.
“They” is not exclusively plural.
Dictionary Definitions from Oxford Languages
pronoun: they
1.used to refer to two or more people or things previously mentioned or easily identified. “the two men could get life sentences if they are convicted”
people in general.
“the rest, as they say, is history”
2.used to refer to a person of unspecified gender.
“ask someone if they could help”
So, “they” is plural when referring to a group of people.
“They” is singular when referring to a person of unknown gender. If somebody is obviously female or male and they want to be referred to as “they” then there is the problem. But, “They” is not exclusively plural.
Not a philistine. I agree with you on the usage, but lets get specific here. If you want to argue a point, it helps to be accurate.
You probably think the hysterical present tense is valid.
You’re saying there is something wrong with this sentence. A single person got out of the car and they walked away. You’re just wrong. Give it up. Your letting your bias against that usage blind you to a simple truth. I’m not saying I agree with somebody who wants to use that pronoun. I’m saying that they as a singular is fine. What’s your actual malfunction about this?
Lack of education eh? 2 masters degrees here and a pretty good grasp on the English language. Don’t put me in the idiot bucket. There isn’t room for both of us in there.
Chance of you changing your mind after listening to me: zero.
Amount of good resulting from the continuation of this dialogue: zero.
There’s always the dictionary. Oh wait. That didn’t work.
Academics have no credibility. Your masters degrees are awarded if your check clears.
