1. New England law enforcement is NOT a small family, but the claim seems, on an amateur level, to help your credibility.
2. The egg nog detail is too obvious.
3. You can’t go around claiming to know people directly involved in every major world event merely because you need to feel credible.
No, I state facts. The state police dive team in CT is small. As is the governor’s detail. I had relatives on both of them.
I also have a son in law in the MA State Police. Another small community.
Those people have been at high profile cases over the past 10-15 years.
And… as a lot of families do…we actually get together over the holidays.

I went to a military college. About half of my good friends on college ended up flying in the Air Force. I see them from time to time and we discuss recent events.
I am sorry that you don’t socialize with a wide range of professions and friends. Being well rounded means you can talk about a range of issues with a lot of people. In many cases, you just listen and take it in.
