Republicans have always supported and funded every welfare program.
Yes they were “me too-ists” because that’s what the public thinks it wants. Any GOP’er who takes a principled stand on such a thing will soon find himself out of office or stuck in political oblivion. If you’re a GOP’er and you want to be a professional politician (Have multiple terms in office!) you are forced to give the public what it wants even in in the long term it’s bad for them. Your horizon never goes past the next election. Doing this as a career (around 10 yers in office!)soon you and your political opposite ( the Rat!] merge in word, outlook and goals.
