Good questions.

And if the were in a storm, why didn’t they have their sails pulled, booms secure and hatches battened? Maybe they were trying to outrun the storm?

And maybe too much alcohol?

Probably poor seamanship(human error).
Although, there seems to be some talk of design flaws. Yet, the boat builder stated the vessel should have been “unsinkable”.

All sailors know to trim sails, reef sails or take them down entirely in a storm. This is because straight line winds have the ability to blow over any sailboat.
That still does not mean it should sink, unless they left the hatches open and didn’t close water tight doors. Which would be human error.

Good speculation. I suspect some of the guests were loaded and were unaware of what was happening...

"or the crew was overruled by Lynch"

Are you suggesting that he Kobe-ed himself?

I would say no because the in the accident that killed Kobe, his daughter and 7 others, NTSB blamed the pilot for ignoring safety practices by flying into fog instead of diverting or turning back.

Kobe trusted a pilot that had safely flew him safely on numerous trips.

I can't fault him for that.

It appeared that Kobe had pressured the pilot to make the flight.

From what I read, Kobe’s travel coordinator had asked the pilot by text if it was safe to fly and the pilot answered that it should not be a problem.

An over confident pilot is dangerous. The pilot had around 8000 hours in helicopters and was chief pilot for the company.

The pilot may have felt internal pressure to fly the famous and valued customer.

Perini, that made the Bayesian. “Following all the proper procedures, that boat is unsinkable.”

Apparently, the portholes were open, the keel was retracted and the crew ignored a storm warning. So the height of the mast, and the retracted keel put the center of gravity somewhere in the galley. So when the storm hit, she rolled to her side, suddenly filled with water and sank like a stone.

That’s the story I’m hearing.
Did I miss something?
