Anchor babies are natural born citizens. That's how it's long been treated.

Long ago, Pat Buchanan suggested that anchor babies are not natural born citizens. He said the issue has never been tested in the Supreme Court. He wanted Republicans to bring the issue to the court.

I was hoping Pat would win in 1992, when his "pitchfork brigades" challenged "King George." But alas, it was not to be.

Anchor babies are natural born citizens.
How was their citizenship obtained? By a law?

That's how it's long been treated.

Treated such by whom?

(f) a person of unknown parentage found in the United States while under the age of five years, until shown, prior to his attaining the age of twenty-one years, not to have been born in the United States;

The law even covers Foundlings.
Drop the baby off at the fire station's Safe Haven baby drop box and it's a US citizen at birth THROUGH the law.

The child would be a citizen, though not a natural born citizen. A natural born citizen doesn't need a grant of citizenship through a law. An anchor baby does.
