I think Gaetz has a good grasp of the behind the scenes cliques within the Republican Party, and judging by McCarthy’s ouster, seems to have a good strategic sense. It seems pretty clear that he played a central role in getting rid of McCarthy. That alone counts highly in his favor.

Only a few folks in the Freedom Caucus are reliable.

He worked with Democrats to oust McCarthy. The great majority of Republicans supported McCarthy.
