This North Texas school district charges more than $300 for a school bus pass

Have you seen the cost of purchasing a school bus, the regular maintenance, the fuel, and the biggest cost beyond the bus... the driver?

The average bus driver pay around here is $25/hr with an average bus route that’s 5 hours total (before + after school). That’s around $15000 per semester. AT $300/student, you would have to have 50 paying riders per bus to just pay the cost of the driver (actual employee cost to district). A new school bus (71 passenger is the typical/average) runs just north of $140k.

It’s one of the wealthiest school districts in the state. My guess is that there aren’t many kids riding he bus.
