There is no rest for the space community this week with a barrage of exciting updates. Not only is SpaceX gearing up for Starship Flight test 5 with vehicles now officially ready to go. What SpaceX Just Revealed is a Massive Breakthrough. Raptor 3 Numbers are in, and the mass reduction is bigger than what I would have ever expected. Along with that, amazing events from Falcon 9, and we just have to catch you up on Starliner too, because wow, that story gets more complex and bizarre by the day.

10:12	·	has been docked to the international space station for well over two months now, but you also need
10:17	·	to remember that there are only two ports that have the International Docking Adapter installed.
10:23	·	Starliner has been docked on the forward port of the Harmony module since it came in., and
10:28	·	this may confuse many because the Crew 8 capsule was docked to the same port originally. However
10:34	·	that was moved from the forward-facing port of the station's Harmony module to its space-facing port
10:38	·	back at the start of May. The Crew Dragon remains here until it returns, which was supposed to be
10:44	·	the end of this month. But new information by Eric and ArsTechnica kicked off the week again saying
10:50	·	it was likely that Crew 9 would be pushed back over a month due to the ongoing saga. Originally
10:55	·	the plan was for that to be flying on August 18, but no. September 24 became the rumor. Speculation
11:02	·	that very quickly turned into fact because on Tuesday NASA published the updated timeline
11:07	·	confirming September 24 as the new target. Indeed Starliner is causing a bunch of unintended
11:14	·	consequences and certainly associated added costs. Remember, all these missions flow on from each
11:19	·	other. They need to adjust so that the Crew Dragon rotation with the upcoming Soyuz crew can actually
11:24	·	occur. Also where they would have launched from Pad 39A, Crew 9 needs to be moved to Space Launch
11:31	·	Complex 40. Why is that? Well, because otherwise it would cause a conflict with the exciting Europa
11:37	·	Clipper mission in September. It's also worth noting that to date there has not been a crewed
11:42	·	launch from Space Launch Complex 40 at all. So yes, there's a lot to consider here. They also
11:48	·	need a re-adjust SpaceX's 31st commercial resupply services mission as well, so yea, it goes on and
11:54	·	on. Luckily the conference with NASA mid week at least clarified a bunch of the speculation. Well,
12:00	·	more confirmed it all really. There are two main options it seems. Return them on Starliner late
12:06	·	this month after confirming that all is safe, or option 2 which is much more involved. This would
12:12	·	mean sending the Crew-9 mission with only the two on board rather than 4, and then Buth and
12:17	·	Suni would join that mission to instead return in February next year. At the same time that would
12:23	·	mean Starliner needs to return autonomously. Well strangely, even that seems more complex than we
12:29	·	ever imagined. Starliner is not currently capable of doing it autonomously. What!? That makes no
12:35	·	sense right? Afterall, the uncrewed mission did all of this reasonably smoothly two years ago,
12:40	·	autonomously docking, undocking and reentering to be recovered. This is not the case with this new
12:46	·	Starliner. To actually have this option available will in fact require the software to be installed
12:52	·	which due to its complexity could take up to 4 weeks. You can't make this stuff up. Anyway, to
12:58	·	allow either option they needed to push the Crew 9 back to match that timeline...

Yeah! The Raptor 3 is such a clean design, and is a bunch lighter than the 2. More thrust, a slight bump up in specific impulse. And there’s talk that both the booster and the Starship will do propulsive landings on drone barges instead of trying the catch arms thing — although those have been getting upgrades in recent days.

That’s an absurd video with fellow travelers of yours reading all sorts of nonsense into a tiny adjustment of body position by an astronaut. I don’t know why I’m debating this idiocy, but for what it’s worth, she’s steadying herself with her foot (they have footholds on many of the surfaces). That’s all that’s happening there.

So tell me, where is the edge of the Earth, and where can I go to look over the edge? And as for the ISS, I’ve watched it fly overhead many, many times as well as seeing its structural details in a telescope. But conspiracy theorists are immune to facts, because you can always just wave away every fact as “part of the conspiracy.”
