As I said, it was a flier.

Musk’s approach to X has been, despite his demonstrated business acumen elsewhere, that of a hyperactive hobbyist. But the end result is as you say: it’s a cash burner.

You’re undoubtedly correct about DJT. If Trump Media were to have ever succeeded it would’ve needed to come charging out of the gate with explosive growth fueled by President Trump barnstorming for it. I had hoped that it would’ve caught fire with the next upswing in the campaign’s polling results, but at this point it looks like even that wouldn’t move the needle.

The one thing Musk has done successfully is cut headcount by 80% without visibly affecting the user experience. Traffic is down a little and it remains unprofitable, but that’s a function of repelling advertisers due to their allergy to ads alongside controversial posts. But a huge chunk of his problem is from overpaying and the structure of the deal as a debt-heavy acquisition. If he had paid as much attention to the price he paid as he did to fixing the company, he’d be sitting pretty.

Just an extremely rash buyout. Not that I’m complaining, since he took me out of an underwater Twitter position at a small profit.
