so the members of the NG can quit whenever they feel like it? how does that work? It actually goes both ways. During the First Gulf War, weight standards were lifted, and everyone could reenlist. But when the war ended (Peace Dividend), units were down sized and everyone was scrambling for a slot.

Perhaps he could quit any time after he had his first 20 years, also, I don’t know how the full system works but being prior regular Army, when I joined the Guard I would enlist and reenlist one year at a time.
