You’re right - I got them confused. It was her mom bragging about accomplishments. I remember reading the interview and it turns out her sister was married to the founder and she just happened to get a job at google. That’s not parenting, that’s networking and who you know.

Wouldn’t wish cancer or child suicide/OD on anyone. It drives home the point, the trappings of wealth and material success are not immune from disease. Sad story.

True, true. Esther’s book should have been “How to Raise a Doctor”... because in the case of the other two, let’s face it, the “how to” is basically:
Step 1. Have your daughter her garage to Sergey Brin and Larry Page for their startup enterprise.
Step 2. Have her sister marry Sergey Brin.
