Decades ago, when Democrats ran Tallahassee and Bill Nelson was a state representative on the rise, he walked up to and started working a small crowd of visitors in the state capitol rotunda. He got to my younger bother and I and, hand out, saw our reflexive look of scorn and quickly passed us by. Looking back, I am proud of that moment. Instinctively, we knew Bill Nelson for a preening, self-important dope.
