I used to like Michael Yon, starting in 2004-05 when he was embedded with the “Deuce Four” (1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division). At the time he was compared the late Ernie Pyle for his writing style.
His most famous picture is one titled “Little Girl” which shows MAJ Mark Bieger carrying a dying Iraqi girl (victim of a car bomb) to a medevac. It is a heartbreaking photo.
Yon seemed to get a bit big for his britches after the Deuce-Four rotated back stateside. He got into disputes with fellow mil-bloggers, and also with the military.
IIRC, he was no longer welcomed as an “Embed” soon after making a big stink about Army Medivac helicopters being unarmed vs the Air Force Pararescue choppers.
He has a habit of demonizing and trying to tear down those who disagree with him or don’t toe “his” line.
For me, the last straw was when he disparaged Erik Kurilla (now head of CENTCOM) who was the Battalion Commander of Deuce Four during its time in Iraq.

Thank you for that info. Too big for his britches sounds about right.
