I thought he wanted to be nice to the crew. Honestly. Like greeting the staff at a state dinner and then returning to the diplomats.

I also wondered if there was an end figured out such as “get the photo-op done, hug family and released Americans again, then wave and have to leave now.”

But when? If they left too soon it would look like an insult.
Late and cameras would go off because nothing but standing around was happening.
