I was happy with the price and throughput of HP laptops with the past 2 I bought, including the one I still use that's 3 years old. 64 GB RAM (3,200 MHz clock speed) with 4-core 2.8 GHz CPU and 1TB SSD. Basically a gamer's laptop but without the enhanced video processing.
I run a MS SQL Server Express DB engine on it while smoothly doing normal things on it like compiling code in Visual Studio or using it for presentations in church.
I don't know about current prices, but the last 2 times I bought a laptop, HP was the best price for horsepower.
