Trump could say he’d debate whoever becomes the Democrat candidate.
As I recall he basically left it open that way, not a hard commitment but open that he cannot commit either way until he knows who the nominee will be.
Pretty much the best position to take, why commit to an action your opponent refuses to present and information on?
