Had three initial shots and I have had covid three times, the last being the worst in that I was really tired. I went from walking four miles a day down to nothing for three weeks. Ended up with clots in four veins and one artery in my right leg. My doctor thought it had more to do with going from very active to no activity for three weeks that caused it. Just got off of Eliqus a couple weeks ago. I’ll be 62 in September.
You sound like my story! Two Moderna shots in 2020 followed by one Moderna booster around 2021. Then no more. I’m turning 73 in three days.
Got COVID on a cruise July a year ago. Lost smell and taste, but bounced back quickly. Then got COVID Round 2 in April 2024, just 9 months after Round 1. Bounced back quickly and had lots of energy. I hike a lot, usually 3-4 miles four or five times a week (up to 8 miles) with elevation gain 700 to 1,300 feet.
Then, about six weeks ago, all sorts of weird stuff started happening - skin problems on the soles of my feet, COVID fingers & toes, hives, vitiligo. Last Weds I suddenly and out of nowhere hit the wall on a favorite hike of 2.5 miles and 700 feet. Stopped at 200 yards and rested. Went another 200 yards and rested. Went another 200 yards and had to rest. I quit at that point and went to the hospital.
Multiple pulmonary embolisms confirmed on CAT Scan and elevated D-Dimer. Spent one night in the hospital and got two injections of anticoagulant, then started Eliquis the next morning after getting home. Doing the double-dose right now for the first week. I went for a 0.6 mile walk the day I got discharged, a 3 mile walk to town and back the next day, and a 3 mile hike the day after that with 380 feet climb.
The doc thinks it is a “provoked” clot episode caused by COVID. COVID is mainly a vascular disease and causes clots.
It’s so weird and scary — the WuFlu keeps on giving.
