The 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck on February 7, 1812. It was strong enough to create new depressions in the land and reverse the flow of the Mississippi River.

I grew up in that red zone. Everyone who lives there is well aware of the New Madrid fault.

I can recall a quake that audibly rumbled & shook the dinner table hard enough that the iced tea sloshed out of the pitcher. I went to the front door & my dad went to the back door looking for the tornado.

On Christmas Eve in 1982 I remember another quake that cracked pipes all over town.
