I don’t understand how anyone could own a pit bull when there are so many other dog breeds and shelter dogs who would love you to death for a home.

In many places (especially cities) the shelters are filled to the brim with pits and pit/mixes. It’s awful.

Here’s a clue: a very large proportion of the dogs in shelters ARE pibble crosses, because those *former* owners recognized they were incapable of handling such a headstrong beast. Unfortunately, weak-willed individuals think these are simple creatures, and do not train them properly.

There are also many shelter dogs that have been damaged beyond repair through neglect, maltreatment, poor (or non-existent) training, and are nearly unsaveable except by people that specialize in such creatures.

Once again, condemning an entire breed to death is something only eugenicists could support, and we all know what happened last time a eugenics-minded government got too powerful, don’t we?

Several years ago when my beloved Siberian Husky died I went looking for a new dog on Petfinder. Over half of them were pit bulls in shelters near me. Just the dog I did not want.
