I enjoy the NFL. A lot of Freepers think it is one step down from the Communist Party but a lot of FReeprs are VERY reactionary.
Yes, the NFL has gone woke in many ways but there is also a “woke-backlash” afoot. I think all this “woke’ leftist nonsense is unsustainable and will die out.
In the meantime, I just focus on the games, the talent, and the strengths and weaknesses of each team in the matchup, especially in the playoffs.
I like the playoffs because I’m able to gather a season’s worth of stats and incorporate them into my team rankings and expected winners. Been doing that since the 80’s and my overall prediction rate is around 60%, which is better than most pundits I’ve seen.
Have fun and remember, FR has it’s own NFL thread by Impy. I’ll copy Impy on this post and you can let him know if you want to be on the NFL ping list.
After watching since the 50’s I stopped watching when the Broncos last won the Super Bowl. The game itself has become uninteresting for multiple reasons in no particular order:
The players are constantly looking for self-aggrandizing kill-shot plays instead of team play. I get the feeling more air-time is spent celebrating than playing.
Too many commercials and game interruptions.
Way too much referee air-time. It’s a referees’ game now, not a players’ game. Too many explanations, replays, penalties etc. 3+ hours with 10 minutes of actual football is a bad joke.
Free agency sucked from the get-go and still does.
There are too many more entertaining ways to spend 3 hours than watching big steroid-enhanced guys running into each other and celebrating every tackle like they did something fantastic.
That’s a long-winded way to say pro football is boring now. If people still find it enjoyable, by all means watch it, nothing wrong with that. That means less people in the parks and on the roadways.
>Understand: before kaperdink I LOVED the NFL
That was my departure point as well. They can GFTS.
I've been doing it for YEARS and it satisfies my NFL jones.
I watch some. But I do catch the game synopses every Sunday on Youtube;;;12-15 minutes each...all the highlights and no woke bs. Good way for me to keep up with who’s who. If I need to see more I can hunt up some longer game vids.
I have also been watching Netflix’s Receiver, highlighting the 2023 season of George Kittle, Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, Deebo Samuels and Amon Ra St. Brown. There are parts about off field life and family but the in game mic-ed up intensity is as good as the old NFL films. Some of the hits those guys take are unreal.
If you have not watched, the game is noticeably different. There might be some BLM crap stenciled in the end zone or on the back of a helmet but the NFL has learned a lesson in keeping their bs off the field for the most part. They mouth the same blithering blather but the game is pretty much left along.
IMHO
Doing so only accomplishes what "the master" wants you to do....make/keep you sick and stupid.
Watch whatever you want.
No... And I don’t see how anyone could watch it or support it.
Capitulation of woke is being woke too.
Even if you wanted to watch the NFL it would be hard if you are a normal over the air TV watcher. IIRC this year they will be broadcasting on a bunch of odd cable channels for some games. I think they are the channels you only watch during March Madness.
All pro sports are fixed. Get yourself a productive hobby.
I stopped watching when they allowed free agency. That meant the Steelers would no longer have a dynasty.
They crapped on their demographic and I crap back.
A couple years ago I noticed a NFL Jersey in my neighbors fire pit, unburnt, apparently awaiting the next fire. After dark I ran over and added one of my own. I bet he got a chuckle when he saw 2.
The games have become progressively worse over the years
1. Too long.
2. Too many commercials
3. Announcing terrible
4. Too many replays
5. Woke garbage still happening
6. Egos
TBH, it's just not an enjoyable experience and I have much better things do with 3-4 hrs.
