Good explanation.

The mass media has a much deeper problem.

Even if they wanted to be objective—which of course they do not—they are relying on the public relations flaks of large organizations—government, corporate, non-government who are basically paid liars.

Everywhere I worked the average worker was banned from talking to the media. The senior executives or public relations flaks who did talk to the media either were ignorant of basic facts or lied about them.

Every single time.

Michael Crichton coined the term "Gell-Mann Amnesia". He had had a conversation with Gell-Mann about the reliability of media in general, and the New York Times specifically. He said he chose the name "Gell-Mann Amnesia" because it showed he had spoken with Gell-Mann, and it made a memorable illustration of the effect.

Wikipedia used to have a very good article on the topic, but they took it down. I assume because doubting the state run media during Covid and the Biden administration caused wrongthink, which is a criminal offense.
