I worked in a jewish deli when I was 18. I have fond memories of rye bread with caraway seeds, pickled cucumbers, smoked garlic frankfurts, I could eat an entire smoked buckling (fish) for lunch, followed by a handful of cherry liquor chocolates. Slices of smoked brisket on a kaiser roll. Now, there’s no jewish deli within thousands of miles where I live, if I could transport myself I would. There’s nothing like a Jewish deli in Melbourne, but how times change. The shop I worked in was one building around the corner from the shop that was bombed in Hawthorn Road, Caulfield.
Two people have been arrested over a suspicious fire that destroyed Burgertory, a burger shop in Melbourne’s south-east.Police say the incident, which prompted a clash between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel supporters, was not a hate crime.

Oh, the Jewish delis in Montreal !........to die for:
One of my favs ........
Schwartz's Deli ( Montreal Jewish Quarter), one of the BEST:
Take me there! I can smell the aroma from the street. In Victoria, in Melbourne, is also the famous Monarch Cake Shop. No visit to St Kilda was ever complete without a box full of a selection of their incredible baked goods...
I knew you were Jewish ! LOL.
My mother’s maiden name was Stein, so it’s possible. I was married to a Jewish GP and did learn jiddish, which I love. Walz, for example, is a ganef.
