I have referd to myself as Buchanan republican the last 25 years. when asked to explain my conservatism... The republican party took a wrong direction after Regan left office. deep in the pit of my stomach I knew this but looked at democrat liberalism as a bigger danger.

Bush 41 Campaigned on Read my lips. No new taxes...and then raised taxes anyhow. Yep, George Herbert Walker Bush was when the Republican Party went off into the weeds. I was never a card carrying Republican to begin with, but after Bush 41 I disavowed the Republican Party and have adamantly told people I am NOT A REPUBLICAN.

Absolutely right. If Republican voters had voted in Buchanan rather than G.H.W. Bush, we could have stayed on the conservative course that Reagan had set us on.
