My grandfather served in the Spanish American War and WWI. He was fervent about carrying the flag during the Armistice Day parades. When WW II started, he tried to enlist again and was turned down. In disgust that they couldn’t find anything useful for a 78 year old veteran to do, grandfather refused to march in the parade again.
