I read the book when it first came out and liked it very much. I did not detect “a bunch of bs” as taunted above. I gifted the book to others, as well. I supposed it helps that I’m only one generation away from being raised in that hardscrabble Scots-Irish culture myself, so it rang pretty true to me.
I read the book when it came out. My people are from the Appalachian region of western WV bordering on eastern KY. My folks took the Hillbilly Highway (rt 23) to Ohio in the early 60s, and that is where I grew up. I’m a proud hillbilly.
