Seems more likely he was a 'Republican' in order to vote against Trump in a closed primary since Biden was unopposed and had yet to change back before the election in November.
Is Pennsylvania an open election state; meaning the issued ballot lists candidates from all parties or is Pennsylvania a party-centric state? If open election state, there would be no need to switch parties prior to the election.
