I don't know whether this was an inside job or not. But from everything I've heard, it is (to me) a lot more likely that the SS, Staties and locals simply screwed up, and perhaps there was a little cowardess on the part of the LEO who backed away from the assassin, instead of engaging him, or at least raising holy hell and alerting the SS and/or Staties.
Consider this: If you were going to assassinate a politician or candidate for office, would you really choose a 20 year old wack job as your trigger man?

Well said— reminding of the FL sheriff’s school monitor deputy who did NOT stop the Douglas school mass shooting— and he KNEW the student coming in with a long case, was banned from campus. Knew who he was and did.... nothing. He retired the next day and applied for full pension and.... got it. Try as two FL governors did to remove it. He has perpetual shame in the deaths of all those high schoolers. Just chicken shite.
