Richard Simmons dead at 76

Richard Simmons -- the legendary fitness guru -- has died at 76 ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... police and fire responded to a call from his housekeeper just before 10 AM Saturday and pronounced him dead at the scene. We're told no foul play is suspected at this time, and cops are looking into it as a natural death.

He was extremely hilarious at times and was always a good sport when other comedians teased or mocked him. He stood toe to toe with Letterman. Too bad about his recent, years long depression.

I am so over celebrities. Every one of them hates us and our way of life (Christian, conservative, constitution-loving.

There was a time when we all used to like the same celebrities, and political orientation did not matter. Now they all hate us.

My wife’s grandfather was the same. Basic derelict. Went out for bread one day and forgot to come home. 30 years later they found out he was still alive. I met him once. Did nothing but drink and smoke cigars.

Doc told him he had lung cancer. He ignored it. Five years later he went back to the doc who exclaimed “you’re still alive?”

Sorry, but I don’t want to waste time thinking about who does hate us and who does not. American popular culture, which, like I said, we all once enjoyed equally, Republicans and Democrats, in the era of our parents and grandparents, no longer broadly shares the values of one side of the spectrum. Everything they promote is against us, even if some individual celebrities may not hate us.

Why? He was a force for people to get fit. He never once talked politics, his sexuality, or anything like that. He made a point not to. He helped a lot of people with his fitness programs.
