The field of Democrat candidates running in 2020 was pathetic and were being eclipsed by socialist Bernie Sanders. Knowing that a Sanders candidacy would be a non starter against Trump, Democrat insiders sandbagged the other candidates and picked Biden giving him a grandfather persona, portraying him as a uniter for the country and pulled out all the election stealing tricks to push Biden into the White House. Picking Harris as VP was simply pandering. I think the plan was a one term Biden presidency while the insiders groomed a new candidate for 2024.
This plan got derailed by the success in the 2020 elections when an expected red tidal wave didn’t happen and convinced many that Biden might deliver again in 2024. As insurance an orchestrated lawfare campaign was launched to take out Trump. Things got complicated by Biden’s rapidly advancing dementia, the cabal who were increasingly running the country as Biden’s mind continued to slip and Jill Biden and her cadre of loyalists who would not give up on the power , prestige and lucrative influence peddling that enriched the Biden family.
I think that the Democrats are victims of their own hubris. The lawfare campaign has backfired and only increased Trump’s support. Biden’s dementia was on full display in the debate and could no longer be covered up and now has become a major liability even in down ballot races. There are few options left for the Democrats to hold power and these would sadly include assassinating Trump, creating some national emergency to delay the elections indefinitely or a coup to install Obama as president

The most likely plan, at this time, is for Joe to stay in office. At the convention he announces he will not accept the nomination with a tearful speech about vague health issues. The Democrats will then turn their nomination to Harris - because she can keep the campaign money - and someone obnoxious like Newsome or Whitmer will be named VP.
I give this an 80% chance of happening.
The D’s will push the young, progressive, and diverse aspect of their ticket and it will be a constant chorus of old white guy verse young diverse womyn.
