Because they have run out of ideas
Almost all movies, since the start of Hollywood is remake of an older movie or it draws elements from other movies. Sometimes they are done well enough that it looks original.
We don’t.

My guess is Hollywood is circling the drain and are trying to grab onto anything that could be a lifeline.

What will the remake of “Gone with the Wind” look like? Rhett Butler is black? Big Sam and Mammy run away when the Union troops get to Atlanta? Ashley Wilkes is a scalawag but gets killed by a member of the Klan?
