The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said that they broke up a cockfighting ring in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Tuesday.
At around 11:45 a.m. deputies were dispatched for a welfare check near 30000 Highland Way near the Summit. While in the area, they found an unrelated cockfighting pit.
A search warrant was immediately written and obtained approval. Most of the night was then spent searching the property, said a sheriff's office spokesperson.
Deputies and Animal Control officers found ten firearms and around 200 roosters. The roosters had been "mutilated" to attach cockfighting knives, said the spokesperson.
Juan Buenrostro Ochoa, 40, was arrested in connection with the case. The investigation is ongoing.

I’ve heard of cock rings before
...they come to snuff the rooster...
I have been to many cock fights.
It usually happed when I would go to a bar with an old girlfriend.
Was very tiresome...
That “mutilation” is the removal of the cock’s natural spurs to attach razors to its legs. The cock already knows how to use the spurs, so substituting razors makes for a far bloodier fight.
Lost of cock fighting used to go on in Oklahoma. Lots of people in Arkansas also raised the roosters for fighting. Now it is banned in Oklahoma. However, I have heard some of the Indian tribes still do it.
For years I drove by buildings in Oklahoma(Cherokee nation) and never knew they were a cock fight ring.
Just found this from 2002..
I said for YEARS that Western UNION ON THurS—FRI—SAT was the place to round up thousands of them.
