When long time and very popular WJZ anchor Al Sanders (who, like Vic Carter, was a black man) died in 1995, Carter was brought in to take his place. Early in his time at WJZ, someone asked him what it was like to replace Al Sanders. Carter's reply was pure class: he said that he was Al Sanders'
successor because no one could replace Al Sanders.
I met Carter at a Ravens' game and spoke to him very briefly. He is completely unpretentious and very much like his on-air persona. I wish him well.
