Seventy years ago Oakland was a thriving community. It had a good paper in the Oakland Tribune. Its black community could take pride in McClymonds High which gave us Bill Russell, Frank Robinson, Vada Pinson. It had a rather funky downtown. There were mixed settlements out East 14th St. to Fruitvale. There was a kind of laissez faire approach to inter- and intra-racial coexistence. It was a hard working middle class environment. Then along came Lyndon Johnson and the destruction of the Black family. It took a little more than fifty years to destroy Oakland, and the civil humpty-dumpty that was will never again coalesce.
Welcome to biden’s America.
