Angry mob of 'anti-tourism' protesters use water pistols to drench foreign visitors at restaurants in Barcelona - as thousands march on Catalan capital and call for tourists to 'go home'

Thousands of protestors marched through central Barcelona this evening, waving placards and squirting holidaymakers with water guns in the latest expression of anger at perceived overtourism in Spain.

Under the slogan 'Enough! Let's put limits on tourism', some 2,800 people - according to police - marched along a waterfront district of Barcelona to demand a new economic model that would reduce the millions of tourists that visit every year.

Protesters carried signs reading 'Barcelona is not for sale,' and, 'Tourists go home,' before some used water guns on tourists eating outdoors at restaurants in popular tourist hotspots. Chants of 'Tourists out of our neighbourhood' rang out as some stopped in front of the entrances to hotels.

“They haven’t done anything wrong.”

That depends of course.

Where I live, tourists very often rent huge SUVs that clog up the roads, and drive like they are the terminator.
There is a palpable “we are spending money, suck up to us” attitude.

Plenty of tourist just blend in thankfully.

Good for you, and good luck.
April has worked out best for us.
There is an endless variety of places to go that are not as crowded as Barcelona.

Zaragoza for one, especially during Holy Week and the Fiesta Goyesca (Goya was a native of Zaragoza, this is in April), etc.

Some, but I gather this is more of a Southern-beach thing, or the Canaries or the Baleares.
We would never go to Alicante or Mallorca, etc.

Las Ramblas is still the party destination. Sort of. Its a bit tourist honkey tonk. What it actually is is a broad boulevard with a wide pedestrian promenade down the middle.

There are actually several “ramblas” very similarly laid out, but none of the others are really destinations.

There’s like 12 teams, all with 100s of support personnel. There are teams from all over Europe, Italy, France the UK. I would expect a large turnout.
