I did not know this. I just asked Perplexity about its connection to Anthropic and Claude and got this response:
Perplexity is not developed by Anthropic.

Perplexity is an independent company that has developed its own AI-powered search engine. However, Perplexity does utilize some of Anthropic's AI models, specifically Claude, as part of its service offerings.

Perplexity has partnered with Anthropic to incorporate Claude models into its platform:

Perplexity Pro users have access to Claude 2 and Claude 3 (both Sonnet and Opus versions) as options for powering their AI research assistant.

Perplexity uses Amazon Bedrock to simplify access to proprietary models like Anthropic's Claude, allowing them to offer multiple large language model (LLM) options to their users.

The integration of Claude models enhances Perplexity's capabilities, providing features like longer context windows, improved writing skills, and more natural responses.

While Perplexity and Anthropic collaborate, they remain separate entities. Perplexity has developed its own technology, including a proprietary enterprise search engine, and offers a unique hybrid of web search and AI-powered summaries. The company continues to innovate independently, as evidenced by recent features like Perplexity Pages.

Yep, it isn’t entirely consistent on the answers it gives (like all LLMs) lol

I think the answer you got is basically right, tho.
