Great story. Those who think Gemini is limited to a database search and regurgitate are just uninformed. But, both ChatGPT and Gemini AI make stuff up that they are representing as factual.

Its a problem. It was highlighted in a well publicized case where a lawyer cited a case in a court brief that was fictional. This is not a fluke. If you cite a legal principle to these AI engines and ask them to confirm it and give a case citation, chances are the case will be made up. Either a complete fiction or a case having nothing to do with the principle cited.

I have done a lot of experimentation on this.
Its very troubling.

Actually, the case in which the lawyers relied on a legal citations generated by ChatGBT is a little more complicated than presented above.

The judge wrote in his sanction order:

“Technological advances are commonplace and there is nothing inherently improper about using a reliable artificial intelligence tool for assistance,” Castel wrote. “But existing rules impose a gatekeeping role on attorneys to ensure the accuracy of their filings.” Source: AP
The lawyers in this case didn't bother confirming what they were told by ChatGPT and that was the subject of the sanction and the reason for the fine. They just printed off ChatGPT's response to the question(s) and introduced it into the proceedings.

As an aside, ChatGPT is not trained on case law and the legal/tax code (unlike some others).

Most lawyers now use AI legal assistants like Co-Counsel (developed by Thompson Reuters) which is intensively trained on case law, the legal/tax code, and law school texts and research.

I was watching local Hurricane Beryl coverage for Houston and the news anchor spoke about Acting Governor Dan Patrick. That got me wondering where Governor Greg Abbott was, so I though I'd ask the Brave AI.

I asked it "Where is greg abbott right now?" Here is what I got:

Based on the provided search results, it appears that Greg Abbott is the current Governor of Texas, serving since 2015. However, the search results do not provide specific information on his current location.

Recent Events and Activities The search results include snippets of news articles and statements from the Office of the Governor, which suggest that Abbott has been involved in various activities and events, including:

Residence According to the search results, Abbott’s residence is listed as the Governor’s Mansion.

No Specific Information on Current Location Unfortunately, the search results do not provide specific information on Greg Abbott's current location, such as whether he is currently at the Governor’s Mansion, attending an event, or traveling.

Then I asked it "hy is dan patrick the acting governor today?" and got this response:

Governor Greg Abbott is currently leading an economic development mission in East Asia and is expected to return on July 13. As the Lieutenant Governor, Dan Patrick has taken on the duties of Acting Governor during this time.

The reason for this temporary arrangement is to ensure continuity of government and effective leadership during a critical period, particularly with Tropical Storm Beryl approaching the Texas coast.

As Acting Governor, Dan Patrick has already issued disaster declarations for multiple Texas counties ahead of Beryl’s landfall, urging Texans to make final preparations and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

Thanks for the links.

On my dad’s side, both his parents came to America in the late 1800’s as very small children. Met years later and got married. Thus my father is 100% Norwegian.

Many are clueless that the modern day English are mostly descendants of the Norwegians. The Vikings settled in Normandy and then conquered England and thus the connection.

On my mothers side I am probably 20% Norwegian, because of the English blood. Which has Norwegian DNA. Thus I am close tom 70% Viking, i.e, Norwegian.

I am a huge Viking fan, of both the football team and of the ancestry history of Vikings.

That one is good.

I just figured out who the entity is behind DeepAI and unfortunately (at least I think it unfortunate), it’s basically Google. DeepAI is the interface that the public sees for an entity called DeepMind who are the ones that developed the AI algorithms and technology.... the history of this that DeepMind was a British company that was bought by Google in 2014 and now operate as a subsidiary under the umbrella of Google’s parent company, Alphabet.

In various enquiries I’ve made, I’ve consistently found DeepAI to come out ahead but in the interest of avoiding all things google-related, I’ll be using a different AI as soon as I find one that is just as good.
