There’s no shortage of divisive foods in the world, but for many people, there seems to be a special kind of derision reserved especially for one particular condiment: Mayo. Some people really hate mayonnaise. And it isn’t just always just simple dislike; among the anti-mayo crowd, there’s a contingent who are vehemently opposed to the stuff. Feelings can run so strongly that it might lead you to wonder exactly why so many people hate mayonnaise so much — but perhaps not unexpectedly, there isn’t just one explanation for the strength of feeling so many share about mayo. It might come down to any number of possibilities, according to several experts with whom Bustle recently spoke — but together, these possibilities paint a compelling larger picture about what fuels our likes and dislikes when it comes to our gastronomic experiences.

I know I'm weird, I can't stand mayo. My perfect burger has no condiments, just cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and extra pickle. I leave the ketchup for the fries, also the price of mayo has sky rocketed.

For me, Mayo’s necessary on certain stuff, not at all on others.

My wife can barely look at mayonnaise and I will never understand that. It’s oil and egg, that’s it.
FWIW, sometimes I’ll eat a burger at home totally naked. The burger that is.

Miracle Whip for meMiracle Whip is not mayonnaise and should not be included in the discussion. It is in its own class. It is salad dressing. I'm serious.

I’ll use mayo on a burger unless it has swiss cheese or similar on it. i’ll save the mayo for the fries.

Mayo doesn't like me.
I don't even celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

Japanese make the best mayo, if you have not tried it you may like it. Kewpie mayo. That aside you are right the only reasons to put condiments on a cheeseburger is to hide the the fact the meat is crap or faux beef. However where we part is if I want lettuce. Tomato, onions and pickles, I will order a side salad. Meat, cheese, extra cheese and occasionally butter. Nothing in the world beats a real Wisconsin Butter burger with extra cheese.
