Interviewed a lady who was one of the authors of 13 Hours (Benghazi). She shared that the troops the Obama administration finally did send were on a flight to Libya and in the course of that flight, the troops were ordered a 1/2 dozen times to get in and out of their uniforms because the administration was concerned about the optics of an American invasion.
To me, that’s the difference between hand wringing and leadership.
Me, I would take the Teddy Roosevelt approach* - send in the Marines openly, have them kill lots of people and break many things, and generally let the world know why you don’t want to FAFO with us.
* referencing the Perdicaris affair in 1904 or 1905. If you’ve ever seen “The Wind and the Lion” you know exactly what I am talking about (good movie, btw, with Sean Connery and Brian Keith). The greatest line in the movie, historically accurate, was TR’s demand of “Perdicaris alive, or Raisuli dead!”
