Ronald Reagan is very much within living memory.
I’m not sure that he was quite so direct, though his actions had very similar effects. Don’t get me wrong, I very, very much liked Reagan. Until Trump came around, I could honestly say that he was the best president of my lifetime, and it wasn’t even close. Trump had the advantage of seeing a lot of Reagan’s errors, mostly in dealing with the Democrats, so in many ways he was better. Of course, we are comparing four years (so far) versus eight consecutive ones, and we are talking about two different eras, so it is hard to directly compare the two.
I will say this: Reagan took down the Evil Empire after 3 generations of it being in power, and that is an accomplishment with no parallel, even though the final act wasn’t until a couple of years after he left office. If Trump can succeeded in taking down the Deep State after 5 generations of it being in power, that will be an even greater accomplishment. I am very much looking forward to the next four years, on the assumption that Trump will be in office starting next January and begin swinging, the act against the would be tyrants in our own country.
